Lauren & Keegan's wedding was what a photographer's dream was made of. Set with a background of Rocky Mountain National Park, every view was a showstopper. I first met Lauren in 2017 at the very first wedding I photographed for one of her best friends, Laurel. Lauren, Laurel, and their other best friend Maria took me in and have now taken me all across the world to capture their own special days (from Missouri to Greece and now Colorado!)
Their wedding day was just the best. It was full of happiness and calmness – everyone there was just so excited to celebrate their union. Lauren and Keegan planned it down to every last detail – including a figurine of their pup to put on the wedding cake! The best part of the day was by far the couple's portraits. We drove five minutes away to Rocky Mountain National Park and took Lauren & Keegan to some of the spots we had scouted out. The views were amazing, and luckily the rain held off for us!
A huge congratulations to these two and their marriage! Things have been a little crazy around here during wedding season, but I just couldn't wait any longer to show off these images. Keep scrolling to see some of my faves, see the vendors, and get to know the couple and their story a little better!
"By the time we get married in June, we'll have been together for almost four years. We met at Vox Magazine at the University of Missouri School of Journalism; we were both there for a two-year graduate school program. Keegan had just arrived in town from Fort Collins, Colorado, where he'd done his undergrad in journalism at Colorado State University. I (Lauren) grew up in Columbia, Missouri, but was hanging around town to get more magazine experience before making what I hoped would be a big move to New York City. I was working at Vox Magazine that semester as a news & insight editor while Keegan manned the design desk. He was also, well, one of my students—I was a teaching assistant for a class called Magazine Editing, which all J-school students were required to take. Keeg was in my discussion section, so, yes, it was my job to answer his homework questions. But I'd say our relationship really took off because we spent so much time huddled together in the Vox office." – Lauren
"In the interest of full disclosure, we'd been planning to get married for almost a year and a half by the time we got engaged. Life derailed our plans, as it does: When we first moved to New York City, Keegan didn't yet have a job lined up, and he wanted to save for a ring. (I told him I'd be happy with a Ring Pop, but he insisted on a diamond.) Then, when he got a job, COVID hit, and everything around us spiraled. So it wasn't until September 2020 that we finally got settled back in New York, both of us employed, and we realized the time was right to start planning a wedding, for real this time. It was our three-year dating anniversary, and so Keegan took me to dinner at a restaurant called Ltauha in our neighborhood of Ridgewood, Queens. We sat outside and shared burgers and margaritas—our ideal romantic meal—before walking back to our apartment, where our roommate and puppy were waiting for us. Not quite ready to deal with our affectionate but energetic pup, Keeg asked if I wanted to go up on the rooftop for a few minutes and be alone together. So we climbed up the steps and took in a gorgeous view of the Manhattan skyline right before dusk. As I was facing the horizon, Keegan got down on one knee behind me to "take a picture," and then when I turned around he was smiling up at me. He then brought out the ring. I knew it was coming, of course, but the moment was a surprise—a beautiful one." – Lauren
"Definitely walking down the aisle and seeing him standing at the altar. A close second is the few moments of alone time we'll get after the ceremony, when we get to just be us, finally husband and wife." – Lauren
"Celebrating our marriage with many family and friends we haven't seen recently because of the pandemic." – Keegan
"My favorite memory is the night we first got our pup, Max. Lauren had never been allowed to have a dog before, and as the foster parent drove up in her car, Lauren was pacing around her parents' house because she was so excited to meet him." – Keegan
"I keep a list of "things I want to remember about Keegan," so I have hundreds of memories. But one that immediately comes to mind is when Max got injured and had to wear a cone around his head, but he couldn't fall asleep because it kept bumping against the walls of his kennel. So Keegan got down on the floor and spent the night curled up next to our pup." – Lauren
